How adorable are the people that say they don’t have any issues? Perfect know-it-alls who have all the answers and zero problems. These are the charlatans to be most concerned about. The challenge is they are non-violent and non-aggressive actors. But it’s all one big lousy show. A strategy of culpable deniability. Deniers of denial distancing themselves from the dirt. By being nice, well-meaning people, they create a layer of protection where no one has the right to affront their illusion. If they present as sweet and kind souls who do not hurt others then why should anyone have the right to call them out?
The wound of touching their fragile mask is so deep that shallowness is their only response. In their eyes, if you hide weaknesses, flaws, wounds and stresses, then hopefully the pain will disappear or at the most convenient, the person prodding the question will. Not only do they not trust you, others, or themselves, but they have grown so accustomed to their facade that they don’t even warrant it worthy of renovation. The house is gutted and their walls are cracking, yet they cut the lawn and make sure the gates have been painted. But the reality is their property needs work. And no amount of their pretty exteriors can convince me otherwise.
Mediocrity has grown normal. Not in the flashy sense. Phonies are great at showing off shiny objects and worshipping status. But in the spiritual sense. The only time they are immersed in deep dialogue is the moment someone calls out their hollow existence. They are horrendous at cutting the crap and getting to the core. It’s all about survival. The protection of pretension. They live on the fence. They point the finger. And the only thing they pray for is that they never have to look at themselves.
This cult of artificiality breeds compliance. It perpetuates a status quo that loves a deal with the devil. ‘If you don’t expose me, I will not expose you.’ The firebrand of blind eyes is in cahoots with each other. Perpetuating the cycle for the next generation of pretenders. If mummy and daddy are liars, most likely their kids will be too. And as is in some divine comedy, the tragedy of this theatre lingers in every family. And those who try to escape the crab bucket of lies are the first that are called to be burned at the stake. Especially the hands that try to help these phonies escape. The hand of the helper is the hand that this bitten the hardest.
