By practising 'combative' simulations, we channel George Washington and prepare for war as ‘the most effective means of maintaining peace.’
A “self-defender” is tired of suppressing what they really think to keep an old friendship alive. Their days of silencing their truth are over, even if that means hitting others between the eyes.

For many years I’ve bit my tongue. To save an old friendship, I kept the ‘peace’. But there is no peace when the same punches are being thrown. Especially when the jokes undermine every bone in my body. Underneath their humour is venom. Underneath my anger is resentment. Not anymore. It's time for this to end. I don’t wish to fight fire with fire. I can restore my integrity without pissing on theirs. Something must be said. If I don't stand up for myself, then who else will?
We grab a coffee. After a few minutes, the mockery begins. Targeting tender spots, I've previously divulged. I take a deep breath, and I look them in the eyes. Words as my weapon, courage as my shield. “That's the last time I'm spoken to like that, do you understand?” I don’t blink. I don’t shake. No explanation is needed as my spirit awakes. The silence is golden. The cowardice rests. The courage to make a stand has brought out my best.
